People grow up believing that they either have or don't have fashion sense. That it's some sort of genetic aberration that you're either lucky enough to be born with or you're doomed for the rest of your life. However, your sense of style and fashion is more like a muscle. One that necessitates preparation, refinement, and a commitment to the trip.

Improving your style with these ten simple steps will be the first chapter in your personal style book, laying the groundwork for you to grow on.

People who desire to learn how to improve their style frequently try and fail haphazardly.

What is the significance of personal style?

Your personal style is a way of expressing yourself. It tells the world who you are and what you want to be remembered for. You only have a fraction of a second to make a first impression, and your personal style has a significant impact on the outcome.

Your personal style can also assist you in gaining confidence and discovering strength in who you are. It has the ability to introduce you to potential friends, draw you to a mate, and determine your hobbies.

A picture is worth a thousand words, and your personal style has the ability to paint your words, emotions, and self.

In ten simple steps, learn how to improve your style.

Step 1: Decide what kind of style you wish to have.

There are millions of styles to choose from, and if you're looking for a place to start, I have a list of fashion styles here.

However, your particular fashion aspirations will most likely be a mix of trends that should ideally relate to your distinct identity.

I suggest reading articles like this one and saving wardrobe ideas and photographs to a pinterest board. Begin collecting information about your style objectives.

This will serve as a solid starting point.

Step 2: Have a well-organized closet with products you enjoy.

Your wardrobe/closet is the cornerstone of your personal style. If your closet isn't working for you, you can't find the items you want, or you're simply overwhelmed, start here.

You'll find it much easier to mix and match items once your closet has been streamlined. It will also be much easier to choose attire in the morning.

Step 3: Concentrate on Fit

Pay attention to how your clothes suit your body, whether you prefer baggy clothes, fitted clothes, or a combination of both. Even the most stylish outfit ideas will be ruined by ill-fitting garments.

Step 4: Pay attention and personalize it.

Have you ever walked down the street and admired a stunning dress worn by a style icon? Keep a record of it. Not just in your thoughts, either.

Make a note of the outfit or style influence in your notes app. After that, save similar clothing ideas to your Pinterest board or your phone's photo album. Start re-creating the photos you like once you've found any you like. Take the outfit's main features and put them in your style rolodex. It may take a few tries to get it right, but it's the only way to start developing your instincts and discovering your particular style.

Step 5: As a safety net, use your go-to style pieces.

We all have a favourite pair of jeans or a sweater that we feel completely at ease in. When trying out a new style or outfit, these are the pieces you should start with.

Start with a tried-and-true foundation, then add on the more daring (or novel) style concepts.

For example, if you want to explore a new spring fashion trend that is outside your comfort zone, such as crochet tops, start by combining it with your favourite jeans. This is a simple way to incorporate a new piece into your wardrobe without feeling like you're diving in head first.

Step 6: Make sure your go-to attire don't fall out of style.

It's so easy to stick to the same few outfits that you know work for you. People have told me that they still dress the same way they did in college. Isn't it true that your life has altered since then?

While the foundation of the outfit may still be a winner, you must ensure that it is modernized. Your fashion clothes, like your technology, need to be tweaked and updated as you grow and change.

It might be as simple as adding new accessories, experimenting with alternative layering options, or changing the proportions to fit your body.

Step 7: Don't overlook the finer points.

The finer points of an outfit are crucial to properly creating the style. At a birthday party, you don't serve a bare cake because the frosting, message, and candles make all the difference!

Similarly, accessories and styling touches such as jewellery, shoes, purses, and hairdo can have a significant impact on your overall look.

Make certain you complete your outfit. You don't have to go all out, but make sure you have at least one highlighted accessory and that your hair matches your outfit.

For example, in the outfit below, I completed my ensemble with a pair of basic gold hoops. I kept my hair pulled back because the dress was loud enough already, and I wanted it to be the focus of attention. Similarly, I chose a basic piece of jewellery that complements the ensemble but does not overpower it. It serves as a complement to the overall aesthetic.

Step 8: Avoid impulse purchases and keep your purchasing habits under check.

Remember when we said that learning how to improve your style starts with your closet? It's the database on which you base all of your fashion choices.

You will have a closet that no longer functional if you fill it with impulse purchases, bargain bin finds, or even enormous lavish shopping spree finds.

BEFORE you go shopping, you should have a better idea of what you need in your closet and where you want your style to go. And my Craft The Closet of Your Dreams Playbook will show you how to do just that, plus a lot more.

Step 9: Know what you have in terms of clothing.

This step is a continuation of step 8. To comprehend what you can mix and match, you must first grasp what you have at your disposal. This means that having a crowded closet or goods you forget you have won't help you.

Clean out your closet and make a mental list of the items you still have. Then, when you see an outfit you want to try on or a style you enjoy, you'll know exactly how to recreate it using items already in your collection.
